Winding Up Search
Check whether a UK company has a winding up petition against it. CorpIntel searches the Central Register of Winding Up Petitions (HMCTS CE-File), HMCTS court cause lists refreshed three times a day, The Gazette and Companies House, and issues a dated, verifiable PDF search certificate.
What is a winding up search?
A check of whether a creditor has presented a petition to court to compulsorily wind up a company. A complete search covers the Central Register of Winding Up Petitions, court cause lists and The Gazette.
Why doesn't Companies House show a winding up petition?
Petitions are filed at court and are normally not advertised in The Gazette until at least seven business days after service. Companies House usually changes the status only once a winding up order is made.
Gazette search vs Central Register search
The Gazette only shows advertised petitions; the Central Register shows them from presentation. Under section 127 of the Insolvency Act 1986, dispositions after the petition date can be void if a winding up order follows.
How long does it take?
The Central Register telephone line handles one company per call with no written record. CorpIntel delivers a dated PDF certificate online within minutes.
Winding up searches for conveyancing and completion
Run the winding up search as close to completion as possible. Under section 127 of the Insolvency Act 1986, a disposition after a petition is presented can be void if a winding up order follows.
